Rise Up!-14 Short Films About Alliance For Positive Change 111minutes
Director,Camera,Editor,Co-Producer
This cinema verité Feature documentary film tells the story Alliance for Positive Change and their work to help people living with chronic diseases such as HIV Aids since the late 1980's. Our film recounts the early days through the people who survived, and we see the work of the organization through its PREP (PEER Recovery Education Program) that helps people use their life experiences to help others in their recovery and in the process helping themselves. We follow the 30th year of this PREP class firsthand and hear stories and testimonials from past graduates of the program and finally we see the same graduates from our class pay it forward to help others. Our film is a history of HIV/Aids and the work of this organization to end the epidemic
and focuses on the stories of LGBTQI+ and African American and Latino women. The film is an optimistic story of people finding agency amidst unfair effects of the social determinants of health to help themselves and others to Be Better-Do Better and Live Better.
